How to mount and unmount drives on macOS

You can use diskutil to manually mount and unmount a drive or volume using the commands below. When viewing the list of connected drives and volumes, be sure to note the correct "identifier" and use that to replace disk1s1 in the example with the correct disk or volume number.

List connected drives and volumes

diskutil list

Mount a drive or volume

diskutil mount /dev/disk1s1

Unmount a drive or volume

diskutil unmount /dev/disk1s1
